PlumRus offers a peaceful and welcoming environment where residents can enjoy comfort, connection and personalised support.

Residents benefit from a wide range of services designed to encourage independence, well-being and meaningful social connection. While PlumRus is not a hospital, our professional and compassionate team provides daily support and care focused on comfort, dignity and quality of life.

  • Comfortable, elegant accommodation, independent living, assisted living and frail care with beautiful gardens
  • Balanced nutrition and tasty catering from coffee in bed, three meals and late-night snack with hot chocolate in a homely environment
  • 24 x 7 nursing and basic care
  • Friendly, helpful, well-trained staff and hands-on management
  • Comprehensive cleaning and laundry services
  • 24 X 7 security with CCTV cameras, electric fencing, access control and risk management
  • Medication Administration & Blister Packing
  • In the case of an emergency, regardless of where the residents may find themselves on the premises, they can press the wireless nurse call button, BellMe, for assistance. Our risk officer and zone co-ordinator will be simultaneously alerted to the resident’s emergency call.
  • Our universal telephone and wifi system allow for easy and uninterrupted communication both internally and externally. You can access Skype, Facetime, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Zoom, WhatsApp, YouTube as well as download eBooks. Access to the DSTV Essential Stay package is optional.
  • Transport to private appointments (doctors, hospitals, dentists, hairdressers, friends, etc.) can be pre-booked.
  • DSTV bundle as option
  • Recreation areas for stimulation and fun activities to enjoy
  • Coffee Shop with extensive menu, including convenience items, is available Mondays to Sundays (including most Public Holidays) from 09:00 to 16:00. Special celebrations can also be catered for from the Coffee Shop.

PlumRus is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment through both our residential and care services communities, where every individual can feel safe, connected and valued every day.

Whether at home or in one of our residences, we encourage meaningful daily experiences, maintain independence wherever possible, and support people to live with dignity and purpose.

  1. Dedicated program for independent living, assisted living and frail care
  2. Community Service Centre for the elderly in the community to meet and collaborate on various initiatives
  3. Develop a PlumRus Community in which stakeholders, businesses, friends and family members can participate and be involved in caring for the elderly
  4. Develop special care for elderly with dementia living independently, or who need the assistance of frail care or home-based care.
  5. Upskilling, development and promotion of our staff.

Our Story

Plumstead Rusoord was founded on a vision to create a place where older persons could live with dignity, care and a genuine sense of belonging within the Plumstead community.

This vision was brought to life through the dedication of the Plumstead Dutch Reformed Church, led by the late Ds. F.N.B. Liebenberg, whose commitment played a central role in establishing the original home.
1987

In October 1987, the first residents moved into what was then known as Rusoord. From that moment, Rusoord began its journey as a trusted place of care, shaped by a strong foundation of community values and service.

2011

Over time, Plumstead Rusoord has grown to meet the evolving needs of seniors and their families. In 2011, additional buildings were added to support independent living, followed in 2013 by the transition from Plumstead Rusoord to PlumRus.

2026

Today, PlumRus offers a range of accommodation options including rooms, bachelor flats, and one-, two-and three-bedroom apartments, together with community-based care services supporting seniors in Plumstead and surrounding areas.
